3 Steps to a More Productive Morning

LEARNSHOPJOIN

Mornings are as predictable as the sunrise, but it can be a struggle to make them a productive part of our day.
However, mornings are a perfect time to get set for our day. As much as the clothes we wear can help us look and feel great, it's all for nothing if we're not doing the best for our core inner selves as well.

EXPLORE MY SITE

Let's take a look at a few things you can do to make mornings more effective . . . .

1. Wake Up Early / Go To Bed Earlier

Let's be honest. How many of us want to get up earlier? I do! I do! I do!  That's usually not the response you hear. If you want to have a productive morning then you're going to need more than 15 minutes before you head out the door.

Try This: Set your alarm for 20 minutes earlier tomorrow morning and don't hit the snooze button. That extra time will make all the difference. You'll feel less rushed and more relaxed as you begin your morning routine.

Of course, it's going to be easier to wake up if you get enough sleep, so give yourself a better chance when your alarm goes off and go to bed at a decent time.

2. Hydrate – Drink Water, Shower First

This habit might be the easiest and the simplest to implement, but it has the potential to have a huge impact on your morning.

When you sleep you become dehydrated. Before you make coffee or take a shower grab yourself a big, tall glass of water. Dehydration has negative effects on your skin, eyes, and your general well-being. The water will also help wake up your sleepy eyes and get your body's metabolism started.

Try This: After your glass of water, take a shower. You can start the coffee maker if you want, but don't wait until after your first cup of coffee or breakfast; jump in and kick-start your day with a shower.

Showering first thing in the morning gives your hair more time to air dry. You may not be able to avoid blow-drying all together, but you can reduce the amount of time you spend doing it. And as an added benefit you'll reduce the damage blow-drying does to your hair.

3. Move Your Body & Eat A Healthy Breakfast

This one might be a little more challenging to add to your morning routine, but starting a little aerobic activity – even for just a couple minutes – can have a tremendous impact on your day.

Try This: Get your blood moving with just 20 squats. It will have a positive effect on your body, and you'll sleep better the next night as well!

Getting your blood flowing increases the oxygen levels in your skin, muscles, and brain. Studies show that you'll not only feel better, but your mind will perform better as well.

Finally, it's time to feed your body and your brain with a good breakfast. Many nutritionists recommend oatmeal or peanut butter on whole-grain toast. Whole grains contain complex carbs which are slowly absorbed and keep your energy levels more stable.

If grains or oatmeal aren't your thing, consider something with dairy-free yogurt or scrambled tofu with sauteed spinach and onions. These foods are full of protein and will help you feel full and reduce cravings.

The Takeaway

If you're not a morning person, changing up your regular routine might be a challenge, but the added benefits are so worth it and will last the entire day. Here's to a happy, healthy productive morning! You will be thrilled with the results!!

Recall Alert! OC Raw Dog Chicken, Fish & Produce and Freeze Dried Sardines

No illnesses have been reported, but OC Raw Dog is recalling some of its products for 2 different reasons. One of the reasons is some fish are large enough to cause a risk of botulism. Wow, that's a new one.

Maker: OC Raw Dog, LLC
Causes: Potential for listeria; potential for Clostridium botulinum
Announcement: FDA announcements (1st Notice) and (2nd Notice), dated April 20, 2018
What was recalled: The following products:
  • OC Raw Dog Chicken, Fish & Produce Meaty Rox, 3lb., UPC #022099069171, Lot #3652, Best by Oct. 11, 2018
  • OC Raw Dog Chicken, Fish & Produce Doggie Sliders, 4lb., UPC #095225852640, Best by Oct. 11, 2018
  • OC Raw Dog Chicken, Fish & Produce Doggie Dozen Patty Bag, 6.5 lb., UPC #022099069225, Best by Oct. 11, 2018
  • OC Raw Dog Chicken, Fish & Produce Meaty Rox, 7 lb., UPC #095225852756, Best by Oct. 11, 2018
  • OC Raw Dog Freeze Dried Sardines, 3.2 oz bag, UPC #095225853043
OC Raw Dog announced this as 2 separate voluntary recalls. The Chicken, Fish & Produce Raw Frozen Canine Formulation has the potential for listeria contamination — a state agriculture department has reported a positive test for listeria in a sample of the food, although there have been no reports to date of illnesses in pets or people.
The second OC Raw Dog recall, for the Freeze Dried Sardines, stems from the fact that the fish are larger than the FDA compliance guideline of 5 inches. The federal safety agency says larger fish like this carry a higher risk of botulism poisoning.
Clostridium botulinum can cause severe and potentially fatal toxicity in both animals consuming the pet treat and people handling the pet treat or coming in contact with contact areas that have been exposed to the product,” according to the FDA.

Recall Alert! Vital Essentials Beef Toppers and Beef Entrée

This is the 4th recall of Vital Essentials in the past 3 years, and salmonella is once again to blame.

Salmonella. That's the feared contaminant in a recall of 2 different products from Vital Essentials (one for dogs & cats, and the other just for dogs).

Maker: Carnivore Meat Company
Cause: Potential for salmonella
Announcement: Customer email dated April 16, 2018
What was recalled: The following 2 varieties and dates of Vital Essentials:
  • Freeze-Dried Beef Toppers (for dogs and cats), 6 oz. packages, Lot #13815, Best by June 4, 2019, or June 20, 2019
  • Frozen Beef Chub Entrée for Dogs, 5 lb. chubs, Lot #13816, Best by Dec. 27, 2018
According to the email, which Petful has confirmed with a company spokesperson, this recall arose out of concern that some of the products may be contaminated with salmonella.
“A single package of product, which was produced on the same day, was collected and tested by FDA for the presence of salmonella,” the email stated, adding: “We expect that very few, if any, packages remain in the market.”
No other Vital Essentials products are subject to this voluntary recall.
This is the 4th recall of Vital Essentials in the past 3 years, all because of potential salmonella or listeria contamination.

Recall Alert! TruDog Boost Me Mighty Meaty Beef Booster

TruPet LLC is calling this a "withdrawal" of a single lot of its beef-flavored Boost Me raw freeze-dried dog food topper. This is the 2nd recall for the company this year.

Maker: TruPet LLC
Cause: Potential for salmonella
Announcement: Customer email dated April 13, 2018
What was recalled: The company is calling this a “withdrawal” of a single lot of TruDog Boost Me Mighty Meaty Beef Booster, Lot #20190531 13815
We learned about this recall from a Petful subscriber (and TruDog customer) who shared the company’s email with us.
In the email, Lori Taylor, CEO of TruPet LLC, said, “We have decided as a company to withdraw the product from the market and replace it with new product immediately, as our new testing protocols have indicated there could be a risk for salmonella in 667 cases.”
Taylor stressed that only the single lot number listed above is part of this action, and no other TruPet products are affected. “And while this is a limited number of bags, considering we have boosted over 1,500,000 bowls — even one sick dog is too many in my book, and we are committed to being maniacs on a mission to ensure the safety of all our pets,” she said.
TruDog Boost Me is a raw “freeze-dried beef dog food topper and versatile supplement.” If you have a package of Boost Me Mighty Meaty Beef Booster with Lot #20190531 13815, call the company at 1-800-476-8808 for a refund or replacement.
Petful verified the email, and a customer rep named Sue added, “We have already notified the customers that were affected, and no dogs have been reported sick.”
TruPet has not yet, from what we can tell, alerted anyone other than the “affected” customers. The company apparently has not shared this news with the rest of its customers and has not shared the news with the general public. But all of us (i.e., TruPet’s potential customers) have every right to know.
So, this looks to us to be a textbook example of a silent recall ~ if we hadn’t shared this news today, YOU wouldn’t know about it right now.
When asked by Petful why the company has not opted to inform the general public of this recall, Sue responded that “only the customers who purchased this particular lot number would potentially have been affected by the withdrawal. Any future purchases of the Boost Me would not be affected.”
Another Petful subscriber, D., has written in to tell us she is a TruDog customer and did not receive an email from the company about this recall. Even though she didn’t have any product with the specific lot number being recalled, she says she still had a right to know. “I got pretty upset.… I have been ordering from them for a couple of years,” she says. “How unprofessional of them not to contact [all of] their customers.”
This is the 2nd recall of 2018 for TruPet LLC, and the 2nd in the company’s history. In February, a positive salmonella test from a state agriculture department led to a voluntary recall of a single lot of TruDog Treat Me Crunchy Beef Delight dog treats.

YL Essential Oils and Pets: A Quick How-To

You love to share essential oils with your family, so it makes sense that you want to share them with your pets as well! Before you begin using essential oils for pets, you need to know the answers to some important questions. Can you use essential oils on dogs, cats, and other pets the same way you use them on yourself? How much should you use? What is the best way to administer oils for topical and internal use?
Check out our quick and easy how-to guide and get tips and info that will answer your questions about essential oils for dogs, cats, and other animals!*

Basic Guidelines

Essential oils and pet
There are some general tips and suggestions you’ll want to keep in mind as you share essential oils with your furry friends.
* Do not use essential oils on and around cats under 10 weeks old, and avoid using oils on and around puppies.

* Animals are generally more sensitive to essential oils than humans are. It’s best to heavily dilute essential oils and use them in moderation.

* Every animal is different, so carefully observe how your animal responds to essential oils. Use common sense and good judgment as you try different methods.

* Be especially careful to not get essential oils in an animal’s eyes.

* If diffusing, always allow cats to leave the room as well as access to areas where they can avoid the diffused oil.

* With all animals, avoid using high-phenol oils ~ such as
Oregano, Wintergreen, Clove, Mountain Savory, and Thyme. This is especially important with cats.

* Use special caution with cats and essential oils. Avoid applying citrus oils topically, diffusing the scent around cats, and having your cat ingest them.

Every animal is different so use your best judgment and basic common sense when it comes to your own pets. For example, my cats love to be near the diffusers throughout the house but will leave the room if I am diffusing an oil they don't care for. Mostly, they love the oils and will lick them off my hand when I use them topically. I have experienced no adverse effects with any of our animals over the many, many years I have been using Young Living. And, even my Animal Reiki clients respond well to the oils! Animals are incredibly intuitive regarding their own needs, therefore, I allow the animals to "talk" to me when working with them.

Essential Oil Acclimation

Your pets may need some time to adjust to the new scents and sensations of essential oils. Use these tips to introduce your pets to essential oils in an easy and comfortable way.
* Wear essential oils throughout the day so your pets will be exposed to the aroma as you hold them, play, or snuggle on the sofa.

*Diffuse essential oils in spaces where your pets like to relax. Keep in mind that dogs tend to stay in a room with their human even if something is bothering them. Closely watch for signs of irritation ~ such as whining, sniffing, nervousness, and excessive scratching ~ while diffusing around them.

* Apply an essential oil to your hands and let your pets smell them so they can explore the scent on their own terms.

* If your pets are jittery or resistant to essential oils, try applying an oil to yourself and staying near the pets for several minutes so they can get used to the aroma.

* Use extra caution around birds, fish, and pocket pets!

V-6 Vegetable Oil ComplexDilution for Topical Application

Your animal’s size affects the amount of oil you should use and how much you should dilute for topical application.
* For cats, small dogs, and other smaller animals, use a carrier oil ~ such as V-6™ Vegetable Oil Complex ~ to dilute the essential oil before application. We suggest at least a 4:1 ratio of carrier oil to essential oil.

* If you’re using essential oils on medium-sized animals ~ like large dogs ~ dilute 3:1 carrier oil to essential oil.

* For very large animals ~ including horses and cattle ~ start with a 1:1 dilution and, if desired, move to the directions indicated on the bottle.

Topical Use

Once your pets are used to essential oils, they’ll better handle topical application. Keep these tips in mind as you experiment with using essential oils on your pets.
Animal Scents Ointment* We recommend applying to the paws for dogs, using the "petting" method for cats, and to the spine and flanks for animals with hooves.

* For easy and comfortable application, rub oils (and carrier oil) between your own hands and then apply by stroking the animal.

* For easier application in large or hard-to-reach areas, combine essential oils with V-6 or with water in a spray bottle. Spray into your hands and then apply to animals rather than spraying directly on the animal . . . especially smaller animals who may not like the spray bottle.

* Use Animal Scents® Ointment to seal and protect any areas where essential oils have been applied.

Internal Use

Animals can ingest essential oils, but you need to follow some general rules before you serve up an oil-infused meal for your pets.
We recommend consulting with a trained veterinarian who has experience with essential oils prior to administering oils internally to your pets. You should not attempt to mix oils with food unless directed by a veterinarian. If you choose to mix essential oils with your pets’ food, keep in mind that the smell may make the food undesirable to the pets; this is especially true for cats.

* If you apply oils to your pets’ paws, they will likely lick and consume some of this essential oil as they groom and play. Make sure you dilute heavily so the amount your pet ingests or absorbs is minimal.

* Never force your pets to consume essential oils or food mixed with essential oils.

Supplemental Products

Young Living also offers a full line of animal-specific products, including essential oil blends made just for animals, cat treats, dental pet chews, and Animal Scents® Shampoo. Log on to our website and search 'Animal Scents Pet Care' to find something your pets will love!
